Jamahal Private Resort & Spa

Bali, Indonesia

sunny 33 °C

Romance, privacy, beautiful surroundings. What else could one ask for on a couple's vacation? We found all of these things and more at Jamahal Private Resort & Spa in Jimbaran, Bali. A short drive (~20 min) from the Denpasar airport took us to a small hideaway called Jamahal- meaning "precious time" in sanskrit. Precious, indeed. The intimate lounge greeted us with freshly squeezed juice and a multitude of helpful employees ready to take our bags and provide information. While the resort is small (only 28 guests maximum), it feels like the opposite. Each guest or couple stays in their own private villa, where everything they need is brought to them, including all meals. Gone are the days of waiting in line at a buffet or fighting for a good lounge chair at a crowded beach- this is the resort style of the future.

We began our stay in one of the pool villas (Sing Siang), which included a small private pool, bedroom/living room and adjoining sinks, with the shower, bath, and toilet just outside. Everything was lovingly prepared for our arrival, complete with beautiful purple flower petals in the bath, and many Plumeria (or frangipani) flowers arranged around the villa. I learned that Plumeria is a commonly used flower in Balinese cultural and religious settings, and it was lovely to see flowers from the very trees surrounding our villa incorporated in the decor.

Our meals throughout our stay were nothing short of delicious; I don't think I ever left even a morsel of food behind! Breakfasts were a special treat every morning with the option of eating outside on our villa deck. I tried a different type of eggs Benedict each day, my favorite being the crab cake Benedict. Pairing it with freshly squeezed orange juice was probably the best start to a day I've ever had in my 23 years! All meals had both American and Asian options, and we tried a variety of both. Fresh seafood like the king prawn was delightful, while the Jamahal burger was a favorite of my partner. We were told the chefs had been working at the resort for many years, and you could certainly tell by the quality and care in the food preparation.

While Jamahal does not provide immediate sprawling views of the ocean like many large resorts, the layout provides plenty of beautiful flora and pool views, and the beach is only a short ~400m walk away. Once at the beach, we were pleased to find a full beach club complete with bathroom, towels, drinks, snacks, and lounge chairs. Our time there involved shooting some videos on the beach with another couple and their infant child, and the staff at the beach club were so kind to bring fruits and refreshments without even being asked.

Our short stay would not be complete without experiencing the spa, and we were not disappointed! We decided on the 90 min full body massage, and were so glad we did. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the masseurs who gave us a choice of three lovely scented oils, and then bathed our feet in a flower petal-filled basin. A methodical massage followed, each limb uncovered, massaged, and re-covered in time to relaxing music. I especially found the finger and head massages relaxing. After our pampering at the spa, we were greeted by homemade ginger tea, cookies, and cakes in our villa, which were the perfect ending to a lovely evening.

For our final night at Jamahal, we upgraded to the master pool villa (Frangipani). It exceeded our wildest expectations, boasting a massive bathroom, bedroom, living room, and shared full sized pool and kitchen/dining area with an adjoining set of rooms. This would be perfect for two couples vacationing together, but was the ultimate splurge for just the two of us.

While we only had a short stay at Jamahal and Bali, neither of us will ever forget the amazingly precious time experienced there. The villas, food, services, and spa combined to provide the ultimate couple's vacation. If/when we get married, this resort is high on my list of potential honeymoon destinations. The level of intimacy and romance found at Jamahal is unlike any other resort we have been to, and we cannot wait to return!
